Across the Water

Lesson learned: Pudong is best on a sunny day.

But there is a certain beauty to the other side of Shanghai on a gloomy day like this one. My boyfriend and I spent a day exploring Lujiazui, the area of Pudong closest to the Huangpu River that is fully equipped with large-scale tourist attractions. For any future Shanghai travelers, this area is ideal on a blue sky day, but we decided to make the best of the overhead gloom. Read on for more details!

The Shanghai Tower disappearing into the cloud-filled sky.

This has basically been my uniform for the entirety of my trip so far. #StudyAbroadPackingProbs. Fingers crossed I can make a big shopping trip soon!

The realities of pollution.

Funny story. There was almost no visibility from the 100-story observatory of the Shanghai World Financial Center, but we decided to make the best of the trip by taking advantage of its amazing interiors. How trippy is this hall? I'd say we were pretty lucky to experience the building without the usual crowds on nicer days.

To put this into perspective, there is supposed to be an entire cityscape behind me...

  11. Shanghai looks incredible. I'm excited to see more of your exploring photos while you study abroad! And wow that's crazy how bad the pollution is that you can't see an entire city-scape from that tower!
