Forever 21 top & heels | Urban Outfitters faux leather skirt
Happy (belated) Spring 2014! This is my first outfit post of the new season, and naturally I am still in all black. I probably won't be abandoning this color choice until the weather truly warms up here. Don't be fooled by my outfit -- it's sadly still lingering between 30-50 degrees.
Today's post is inspired by the S/S '14 Trend Guide by ASOS (here). This look is my interpretation of the "So Cal Dreamin'" theme, which emphasizes the ongoing athletic trend. What I love most about this trend is its ability to adapt to any given season. With an athletic look, you can rock the most basic pieces and still stay on trend. For this outfit I paired an oversized graphic tee with a faux leather mini skirt for a touch of edge. The skirt also prevents the top from looking too boxy over my petite frame.
Let me know what spring trends you're most excited about this year. Talk to you soon!
Faux Leather Midi Skirt
Monday, March 17, 2014
5'1" height v. the midi skirt. Challenge accepted. For a few months now I've been hunting down a midi skirt that would complement a person of my height (or lack thereof). Leave it to ASOS' Petite collection to do just that. This skirt was my first ever purchase from ASOS, and it certainly won't be my last. With it's sale price of ~$22 from $75 and a 15% off coupon, I scored this piece for only about $18. I can honestly say I've found the perfect midi skirt for my spring wardrobe.
As a girl who likes to experiment with edgy and classy pieces, I naturally had to have my midi skirt in black faux leather. I can assure you that this detail does not feel heavy in any way. I paired the skirt with a red crop top and my lace-up heels to lighten the look for spring. As a petite person, I always need to be aware of my outfits' proportions. This crop top keeps me from looking shapeless, especially with the slight hint of midriff. I really cannot tell you how excited I am about this skirt, and I'm sure it will be appearing in more blog posts as the weather warms up!

Maxi Dress c/o As U Wish (here) | Forever 21 kimono & hat
The seemingly endless winter here in New York has made me increasingly nostalgic for the summer season. I'm having a serious craving for lazy beach days and backyard barbecues. To those of you are are already experiencing lovely spring weather, I am extremely envious! We had a few days of warmth here until the below-freezing weather decided to creep back in. What a tease.
I layered my As U Wish maxi dress with this light kimono from Forever 21 for the ultimate summer look. What screams "festival season" better than crochet and florals? I'm sure you've seen tons of girls rocking kimonos lately. They allow for a lovely way to layer even during the warmer seasons. I'm always looking for ways to create the illusion of height, and I think this kimono/maxi dress combination does just that.
Let me know what spring/summer pieces you're most excited to wear! Thanks for stopping by!

The Sweatshirt || NYLONshop
Monday, March 10, 2014
I have been looking forward to this post for almost a month now! Today I am introducing to you the awesome relaunch of Nylon Magazine's NYLONshop. I had the opportunity to select this sweatshirt from their site, and it was honestly not an easy decision. There are pages on pages of the raddest products in the NYLONshop, from clothes to accessories to shoes. If you're familiar with Nylon Magazine, I'm sure you love its urban pop-culture vibe as much as I do. I can always count on the magazine for providing the most interesting music recommendations. Nylon's loud personality resonates in this new shop, so I suggest you check it out.

I chose this sweatshirt because of its obvious irony in the blogging world. Especially as a fashion student, I constantly feel the pressure to look my best. This top is the perfect piece for those days you just can't get out of bed. It screams, "I'm wearing sweats, and I'm proud."
For the sake of this blog post, I found a way to dress the sweatshirt up. With the rise of the athletic/casual trend, I've seen so many bloggers sporting the "chic sweatshirt" look. I'm sure you've already seen Aimee Song rock this trend effortlessly (here). I paired mine with an all black look to make the graphic stand out. To contrast the sweatshirt's oversized, boxy look, I wore my new lace up heels for a touch of femininity. I was also so excited when I found these five dollar shades in Forever 21. I am not in a rush to buy luxury sunglasses, but I have been admiring the mirrored Ray Bans for a while now. I think the mirrored look gives off a cool urban vibe that just matches this sweatshirt perfectly. Maybe one day I'll build up the courage to splurge on the real pair.
Don't forget to check out the NYLONshop -- you won't be disappointed!
A Pastel Spring
Friday, March 7, 2014
Hi there! Today I have yet another collaboration with one of my favorite bloggers, Jules from Life's Jules. She has earned so much success recently, and I'm so glad to have met her on Instagram! We got the idea to style some of the S/S '14 trends featured on Asos right now, starting with Candy Shop (aka pastels). Pastels are the epitome of springtime, so what better way to welcome the better weather with its signature theme?
Check out more of Jules' photos on her blog now (link above)!
Zara sweater & heels | Forever 21 skirt | H&M necklace
My pastel piece is this simple sweater from Zara. Here in New York, our transition into spring hasn't been the warmest. I saw this sweater during January's sale and picked it up knowing I would still get a lot of use out of it. I love how although it is basic, it has this thick partial turtleneck detail to keep it a bit more interesting. Details like these add a subtle touch of chic to an otherwise minimalistic look.
Are you as excited about spring's color palettes as I am? I'm ready to abandon my dark winter looks! Check back on Monday for my next post - it will be a special one!
Master the Metallics
Monday, March 3, 2014
Happy Monday! Today I'm collaborating with the sweetest blogger Samantha of Starring Samantha to show you how we style metallics! This is a trend than can be difficult to style outside of a formal event, so we're here to provide some tips on how to conquer it more casually.
Check out Samantha's blog for more photos of her look!
Charlotte Russe metallic bustier | Zara faux leather jacket | Forever 21 skirt & heels
From DVF to Dolce & Gabbana, metallics were seen all over the runway this season. Metallic pieces are great for adding some punch to an outfit, whether you are spending a casual day in town or heading out to a party. If you're not ready to throw on that statement piece, here are some ideas for embracing the trend with subtlety.
Play down the metallic effect. For my look, I styled a dark purple metallic bustier with an all black look. The color creates a quieter effect than a completely silver or gold material. While Samantha's skirt is silver, it has a darker background color peeking behind the print that breaks up the boldness. With both techniques, we are able to wear metallics almost anywhere!
Pair your statement piece with simple colors and details. By pairing my bustier with a completely black look, I not only highlight the statement piece, but also keep it from looking too busy. I find that a leather jacket usually has a way of completing an outfit. Here, it brings my bustier to a more casual level. Likewise, Samantha paired her metallic skirt with pastel blue and black. This is a great way to transition metallics into spring as well.
Let me know in the comments below if you're embracing the metallic trend! Thanks for stopping by, and I'll talk to you soon! P.S. - Notice anything different about my hair?

Tank & necklace c/o Style Lately (here) | Forever 21 jacket, skirt, & heels | Prada sunglasses
Hi there! I apologize for being slightly delayed with this week's posts! I celebrated my second anniversary with my boyfriend last weekend and decided to take a brief break from shooting. On the bright side, I have a lot planned for the upcoming weeks! Stay tuned :)
Today I'm styling a graphic tank and triangle necklace from Style Lately, an online-only store created by Megan from Style'd Avenue. The top represents three of a girl's weaknesses: lipstick, heels, and late nights. What better way to style this personality piece than with an even bolder color palette? This is my first time attempting a red monochrome outfit, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
Side tip: when pairing red-on-red, try matching the shades as closely as possible. Don't be afraid to be bold!
For this look I also tried to create a balanced mix of edgy and feminine pieces. I love the contrast between the zipper details on the moto jacket and the girly flared skirt. This combination is a perfect representation of my personal style. Which one are you -- edgy or girly?
