Windowpane

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Top: Calvin Klein outlet (similar here & here)
Shorts: Forever 21 (similar here & here)
Shoes: Forever 21
Bag: H&M

I wish I could call myself a minimalist dresser. I follow bloggers like Natalie Liao and Alyssa Lau and often wish I could make a simple outfit look so chic. But, unfortunately, that's not the way my mind works. While this is not my usual outfit of choice, I do love experimenting with different styles and making them my own. Today's post presents my take on the minimalistic Alexander Wang aesthetic. This is the first time I've ever worn windowpane, but I have to say the print is growing on me. I especially love it in this oversized silhouette that can be worn with anything from these faux leather shorts to a pair of trousers for work. Black and white just does it right (lame Dr. Seuss moment).

Necklace: Matterial Fix
Top: Arden B.
Shorts: Zara

Just a quick post today to introduce you to Matterial Fix, a socially responsible jewelry brand that works with organizations to empower girls. 10% of each purchase is donated to such causes in partnership with Peruvian Hearts and Freedom Firm India. I can honestly say that I've been becoming more selective with the brands I work with, and I did not hesitate upon receiving a request from Matterial Fix. For all you fashion lovers, shopping this brand is the perfect way to enhance your wardrobe while giving back to those in need. Check out the video below for more details:

As an added bonus, I am currently hosting a giveaway for this Armor Necklace on my Instagram! The rules to enter are easy, and the winner will be selected tomorrow night, so don't miss your chance!

Regardless of the result, however, I highly recommend visiting the Matterial Fix site and making your purchase count. Here's to girl power!

Closet Color Series: 5 Ways to Wear Pink

Surprise! I had so much fun filming and editing my POPSUGAR Must Have Box Review that I decided to go all in and start a Youtube Channel. I will still be creating style posts for this blog, but there's nothing wrong with trying new things, right? Through these platforms I hope to develop my own creativity while providing style inspiration for readers and viewers.

My first video is also the first of  my "Closet Color Series", where I style one color from my wardrobe several ways. This is also a challenge for myself, as I tend to drift towards blacks and neutrals for my outfits. I hope you enjoy this video, and let me know what color you'd like to see next. I'll be back soon with another blog post!

(P.S. -- You may recognize the thumbnail photo from a recent blog post. I had forgotten to take a thumbnail picture, but this outfit is featured in the video!)

Geo Glam

Romper: Forever 21 (similar here)
Bag: ASOS
Lipstick: Diva by MAC

Truth be told, I've been purposefully spacing out my romper posts with hope that my collection doesn't seem excessive. There's just something about a one-piece look that draws my eye. I even find myself browsing through dresses and often thinking, "I would buy that in romper form".  I've found that as a petite girl, rompers cinch my waist and elongate my legs quite nicely. Throw in a geo print, back cutout, and black/gold color palette, and I'm sold.

If you read my last post, you'll know that I've been wanting to take my blog in a different creative direction. Today's post may not seem drastically different, but I am personally happier with the photo compositions and visual layout than before. Every aspect represents me, and that in itself is truly satisfying. Thank you to those who have been so supportive! I look forward to what the future brings for Looks by Lau!

Thunderstorm Thoughts

Wednesday, July 2, 2014

Take this moment to appreciate the beauty of San Juan as I share some personal thoughts. Spending the last month interning in a truly corporate environment has, ironically, spurred my creative mind more than ever. Over lunch breaks, I find myself browsing blogs that I admire, and simultaneously finding new ones. I consider a blog admirable when it has an original voice and style. Bloggers like Olivia LopezBianca & Dani, and Lily Melrose know exactly who they are and how to portray themselves. I want to be able to do the same.

SO, what I'm getting at with this semi-rant is that I want will start taking my blog into a new creative direction. I can assure you that this change won't be drastic, but I want it to feel more like myself. I have a tendency to compare myself to those who are successful, but I've realized that such success comes from genuine individuality. I'm finally proud of what I've done with my Instagram, and I want to translate that feeling into this blog. Starting now, I'm going to approach this with my true personal style, regardless of whether that is "on trend" or not. Whatever that becomes, I hope you enjoy it!

On a more cheery note, I wish you a fantastic July 4th weekend! I hope this post can inspire you to embrace your own unique point of view in some way. Talk to you soon!
