A Morning Upgrade With Intelligent Blends Coffee
Monday, November 20, 2017
It's funny how quickly coffee can bring people together, especially in New York City. The idea of having a coffee is now less about the drink itself, and more about the experience that accompanies. Whether you are creating and strengthening relationships at cafés or sharing a quiet, cozy drink at home, coffee is something almost everyone can relate to.
My roommate and I moved apartments in August and since then have been upgrading our space with things our previous space could not hold. Somehow we've gone without a coffee maker for a while, but Intelligent Blends recently helped us out with their single-serve machine and a delicious variety pack of their organic blends.
As a private label, Intelligent Blends is able to skip the middleman and offer quality blends without the extra markup. Their 100% recyclable products get delivered straight to your door, making life even easier for anyone like me who gets regular caffeine headaches (no shame). This was just the addition we needed to our home - I guess mornings aren't so bad after all.
My NYC Bedroom, Part One: Cozy Quarters
Wednesday, August 16, 2017
Leesa® kindly provided this mattress to me for review. All opinions are my own.
With my recent move I have been determined to invest wholeheartedly in my new space. Designing an apartment in New York City becomes a trade-off -- how do you hold back on spending too much for a rented space, while still making it the place you want to go home to?
I've been especially focused on the space surrounding my bed because a good night's sleep makes all the difference. At least a third of our day is spent on sleep, and the quality of that time can determine how you spend the 16 hours following. Keeping that in mind, for this move I gave my bed a refresh with Leesa®, a mattress that ships free directly to your door with a design that ensures ultimate comfort.
Healthy Mind, Strong Body: One Month of YogaWorks
Tuesday, May 2, 2017
Now that May has arrived, it's about that time when we start scrambling to make up for a season's worth of hibernating. Unless you worked out all winter, and in that case, I admire you. While I'm not by any means a fitness guru, I do understand the immediate health effects of working out on my aging body and the opportunity I still have to improve. Cue yoga, my favorite way to get back in shape after an exercise slump.
I spent the majority of April getting back on my feet with the help of YogaWorks, a studio with locations both throughout New York City and nationwide. There is a countless number of workout class offerings just in this city (and I've tried quite a few), but what stands out about YogaWorks is its openness to all people and levels. After a long season of slacking off on exercise, I still felt confident about myself in these classes. That, to me, is the most important thing when it comes to body health -- feeling good from the inside out. What better method than yoga to strengthen your mind and body at the same time?
So I've geared up in my Boohoo FIT workout wear and finally taken steps to re-include regular exercise into my weekly routine. It always feels easier when you're surrounded by other motivated people in class and instructors who can guide you along the way. It's all about baby steps.
5 Lessons Learned From My First Year Working Corporate
Thursday, February 16, 2017
This is me in my natural habitat. Rushing through the streets of New York wearing all-black with a slight twist, of course. The brief time I spend walking outside before and after work is often my most introspective. Often times I leave work in a blur, wondering how the day has passed so quickly, or how a year has gone since I started working. It's all a part of adulting, right?
The past year of transitioning from college student to corporate girl has been one of significant change to say the least. In college your professors say they're preparing you for "the real world", but I'm not sure that anything really can. It all sort of rushes in without warning, challenging you, but also growing you every day. In hope of showing my support for anyone making the transition as well, I'm sharing five things I've learned from my first year in the corporate world.
1. Your boss won't be your best friend, but they'll be an integral part of your experience. The corporate hierarchy is a funny thing. It's a ladder that seems to never end. But maintaining a good relationship with your boss is everything, and the best thing to do is not only collaborate with them, but leverage them. Chances are your boss has done something right to get them to that level. And though you may not agree with them 100% of the time, use the opportunity to learn from them. No matter the strength of your relationship, you'll still have to spend 80% of your week with this person -- make it worthwhile.
2. Don't give up your hobbies. Time management is one of the quickest challenges you face when a full-time job comes around. It's easy to let the hours and days pass you when work gets hectic. Though I've had my fair share of long days at the office, I'm not one to let it take over my life. It is so important to maintain the passions that make you unique. Whether it's boxing or blogging, those side hobbies will fuel your energy and personality.
#PerfectNever
Monday, October 24, 2016
I'll admit it's been a while since I've been fully confident with my fitness level. Every day I skip a workout is another moment of appreciation for those daily sports practices in high school. I'm not the kind of girl who can be confined to a traditional gym. Give me a mountain to hike or a kayak to paddle, and I'll happily work out any day.
Here in New York, the gym is a lifestyle. But despite the endless membership options that line these streets, I'm not sure I'll ever fit in with that world. I prefer workouts that don't feel like exercise - the ones that create memories along the way. That is the beauty of Reebok's #PerfectNever campaign. I may never achieve the body of a supermodel, but I'll leave every "workout" knowing I achieved more than a chiseled body.
In today's society, the perfect body is nonexistent, as is anything else that is subject to comparison. Work out to feel good, and do only what you enjoy. No one has time for anything else. What is your #PerfectNever story?
Coffee Shop Corners: NYC
Thursday, October 13, 2016
When I spend the night at my boyfriend's place, he wakes up an hour earlier than his usual to grab coffee with me before heading to the train. It becomes an opportunity to discover the cafés of Jersey City and an extra fifteen minutes in the morning that we get to spend together. As cheesy as it sounds, coffee has a way of connecting people. Quick café plans turn into deep conversation and suddenly you're sipping on your third cup as the hours pass.
I share a lot snippets from my life on Instagram that never make it to the blog, so here's a little visual compilation of some of my favorite coffee shop moments from New York City. Cheers to the laughter, conversation, and memories that follow a simple latté. What small moments mean the most to you?
