Day Trips From Lisbon: Sintra & Cabo da Roca

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

Lisbon was my favorite stop along my recent European journey for more reasons that the city itself. Less than an hour away are small but incredible towns that couldn't be farther from the urban lifestyle. If you're looking to experience all the magic Portugal has to offer, don't miss these unique day trips from the capital city.

Quinta da Regaleira, Sintra

Though small, the town of Sintra has no shortage of amazing sites with its historical establishment as a romantic elite escape. This 20th century estate is one of the most incredible I have visited, but not for the residence itself. Surrounding the ornate home is a labyrinth of enchanting gardens meant to represent ancient secret orders. You'll find yourself lost among the hidden caves and tunnels, as well as within the eerie initiation wells. To label this space as magical would be an understatement.

Pena Palace, Sintra

Think Disney World, but in reality. Sitting atop the hills of Sintra is a vibrant, fairytale-like palace dating back to the 19th century. If you ever visit, take a moment to look out onto the rolling hills and lush landscapes of this romantic town. The views will take your breath away.

Cabo da Roca: Westernmost Point of Continential Europe

Walking along the coastline of Cabo da Roca is no ordinary stroll. This area has been established as the westernmost point of continental Europe and offers the perfect afternoon adventure away from the city. The Portugeuse joke that if you look closely you can see the New York City skyline emerging from the horizon, though this coast couldn't feel farther from urban life at home

  13. The places look magical and the building architecture is beautiful. The wall in the second picture with a smoky bush in the distance looks like a setting in the medieval era and you captured them all in your camera. Must be awesome. Love this post!

  25. f you stay in one of the Copenhagen hotels near Tivoli amusement park, you can relish plenty of gardens, rides, and other entertainment resources. If you are lucky enough, you can catch up with the weekly fireworks and concert organized here. And if you are feeling an appetite, you can have some palatable snacks at the eateries both within and outskirts of the park. visit homepage
