Balance

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

In my earlier days of blogging, I became wrapped up in the idea that my life had to mimic an Instagram feed. I spent some time trying to be a minimalist, until the summertime rolled around and I couldn't resist some bohemian prints. I then went for that teen Brandy Melville look (I know, I'm shaking my head too), truthfully because it garnered the most "likes". What I've learned over the course of these fashion experiments and mishaps is that style doesn't have to be defined. Yes, there are diehard minimalists with consistently perfect Insta-feeds in the fashion world. But that doesn't mean you have to be one too.

Kimono: c/o Behind Hemlines
Top: Missguided | Skirt: Zara (similar here)

What I love about this kimono is that it combines my preference for monochrome with a personality print. I have lately been jumping between different "styles", from channeling the 70's in fringe to keeping it feminine in a backless romper. Each look, though different, is still uniquely me. I don't need to identify as a minimalist to wear black and white, or as a bohemian to wear a crochet-trimmed kimono. Fashion is powerful because I can have the best of both worlds to create a combination that represents me. So here's to designing balances, in our wardrobes and beyond, to create something that represents us each as individuals. How do you define your style?

  2. That's how I felt, too, about my blog and Instagram for a moment, but now I'm just rolling with whatever looks good and makes me feel good. I'm glad that you're doing the same, Christina!

  4. I'm glad you found a balance that works for you and a style that is more true to you. I love those curated minimalist feeds just as much as the next girl but that will never fit in with my style. I love vibrant color too much.
