Reflecting || A Day at The Cloisters

Sunday, November 8, 2015

Fun fact: In less than two months I will be finishing up my degree in Fashion Merchandising with minors in Art History and Asian Studies. I recently took a trip uptown to The Cloisters art museum with my friend Arnold (also the photographer of this post), who despite having known for just five months, I feel like I have known for a lifetime. What I appreciate most is that he never fails to show genuine interest in my interests. We discussed everything from his dreams of marriage to my plans for the future, and today I thought I'd share some of the latter with you.

I'm Christina. I love art, and I love the fashion/retail industries. I value experience, but also career development. The idea of merging business and creativity has been a driving force in my education and career thus far, and I only hope to expand on that idea moving forward. I have had amazing opportunities to work internally with companies and put my hands in the processes behind today's products, while maintaining this blog as an artistic outlet. That balance is the platform for my goals post-graduation.

In looking to the future, I am excited by the idea of influencing product and moving forward into the retail industry, while maintaining this blog as a reminder to create balance. Despite recent arguments that social sharing prevents genuine experience, it has had the opposite effect on me. Blogging pushes me to seek experience and in turn encourage others to do the same. Despite its establishment as a style blog, I would love Looks by Lau to be a hub for discovery. Much like today's post, I want to merge personal style with a focus on setting. My everyday life already revolves around the fashion/retail industries, so my hope is that this blog can become a space for something more. What fuels your interests and passions? Let me know in the comments below!

PS. Don't miss my $50 gift card giveaway with Lydell NYC! Ends November 12.

  7. Such a beautiful and meaningful post.. I love that you are having these thoughts -- and congrats on almost graduating!! That is a humungous achievement!! Just look at your blog to see all that you have done already. Very inspiring. I feel the same way, technically I did start my blog with a style focus as well but overtime I started noticing my true passion for women's empowerment and environmental rights which ironically both have close ties to the fashion industry.. Funny how that happens isn't it :)

  23. What a wonderful post, Christina, and advanced congrats on finishing your course -- it must be exciting!

My blog started off as something style-centric as well, but my desire to do something much more meaningful has spurred and churned my passion for writing into the mix. I'm a huge lover of the fashion industry but I doubt I ever would become a professional in the world -- I'll settle for the tech and English world!
