5 Things to Do This Autumn

Sunday, September 13, 2015

It has been about two weeks since the start of my final college semester, and it is safe to say that these next few months will show no mercy. In keeping up with the chaos of the semester, I never want to become so immersed in the day-to-day that I forget to enjoy my last experience as a student. Autumn brings an entire new season of exciting things that I'll be adding to my to-do list. Today I'm sharing a few with you in case you'd like to do the same as well:

Shoes: c/o Shoe Dazzle | Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs (similar)
Hat: Topshop | Top: Zara (similar here) | Skirt: Zara (similar here)

Upgrade your wardrobe.
As a fashion student, this is at the top of my list for any season. The changing temperatures give way to a completely fresh wardrobe if you're feeling a bit bored of the usual. I typically wouldn't expect any fringe to enter my closet, but a subtle piece like this tank adds some statement to my outfits without neglecting my style.

Try a new workout.
I am no role model for exercise, but I do know the importance of taking care of your body. In the summertime, I use my energy in the water, whether through standup paddle-boarding or swimming. With readjusting to the city and slowly feeling the autumn chill, I recently rejoined a yoga class to de-stress while burning the cals. While I will have to add in some workouts with higher intensity, yoga is a great way to engage every muscle while unwinding throughout the week.

Go on a hike.
This is something I am desperate to find time for once the seasons officially change. There is something about fall air that makes you want to be outside and enjoy nature's new colors. I am absolutely looking forward to this humidity's disappearance plan to take full advantage of it.

Take a weekend trip.
I have had the travel bug since returning from China, though the busy semester tends to push that priority to the bottom. Traveling, regardless of distance or time, allows me to refresh and develop new perspectives often shadowed by daily life. New York especially has endless weekend trip opportunities to areas like Montauk, Bear Mountain, and the Poconos. Where would you like to go?

Teach yourself a new skill.
We often get so wrapped up in work that we forget to continue learning on our own. Instead of immediately dropping to your bed with Netflix, use some of that usual computer/TV time to take on a new skill, whether that be scrapbooking, using Photoshop, or cooking. I have been wanting to learn coding for quite some time, but the demands of everyday life seem to take over my priorities. Here's hoping that will change this season.

If anything, the changing of the seasons reminds us to refresh and set new goals for the upcoming months. Yes, summer is ending, but let's plan for even better experiences this autumn!
