I spent this past weekend further down south than my usual abode to visit family and celebrate my cousin's fourth birthday. Outside of family reunions, what I love most about these quick trips are the settings themselves. We visited relatives' homes in both Maryland and Virginia, all of which are nestled in lovely areas away from any urban distraction. As much as I feel at home in the city, these escapes always make me hopeful for a quiet lakeside home one day. Between kayaking, swimming, and taking simple walks along the water, the possibilities for pure relaxation were endless. Life seemed to slow down despite the briefness of this trip, and I relished in it.
