Asbury Park

Thursday, July 14, 2016

It's funny how often I've been asked if I live amongst farmland when I say I'm from New Jersey. The tiny state always plays second to its neighbor New York, and honestly the reasons are typically true. But good old Jersey will always be home, and I am keen on highlighting some of its most redeeming qualities (no, not farmland).

This past weekend I made a quick stop to Asbury Park, a seaside area that has never been the same since Hurricane Sandy. What used to be dynamic casinos and theaters are now virtually abandoned, leaving the boardwalk with a certain character that isn't yet to be ignored.

I almost see Asbury Park as the next Brooklyn of New Jersey, with chic brunch/coffee spots and transformed markets selling goods straight from the coolest NYC borough. The boardwalk is lined with wall art reminiscent of New York's DUMBO as well. And while Asbury Park is nowhere close to being the next destination for travel, it certainly wouldn't be a bad way to spend a summer day.

  9. I'm from Jersey too and there is such a misconception of what it's actually like. It's not really bad at all in fact it's quiet nice. Nothing can compare to NYC though so it gets the short end of the stick. Love your top by the way!

  16. Those delicate trumpet sleeves of your top are gorgeous, Christina.

I have a weekly Link-Up Party called Project Sister Act which runs every Friday, and it's a celebration of debunking the myth of how style needs to be pegged to a specific age or category or aesthetic. I do hope to see you there :)
