East Meets West || The Long Museum

Sunday, May 24, 2015

It's been quite a while since I've created a post (because over a week on blogger terms means an eternity), and I sincerely apologize for the delay! Things have gotten busy here in Shanghai, but I am back on track and ready to publish new content. I spent this past weekend exploring The Long Museum at West Bund and its amazing architectural space. Especially with its location outside of the central city on the water, the museum has quickly become one of my favorite areas in Shanghai.

In terms of the artwork, I was particularly drawn to the Xu Zhen Solo Exhibition that fuses both Chinese and Western cultures to convey history and innovation. This is especially shown through the piece in my first photo, in which European-style figures are standing in typical Buddha poses, and the second in which Western sculptures are interconnected with standing Buddha bodies. Overall, I absolutely enjoyed exploring this unique space and cannot wait to return once new exhibitions are opened. PS. Stay tuned for new posts from a big upcoming trip!! Any guesses where?

  1. Wow, the place looks absolutely amazing! I'm loving the Western and Eastern juxtaposition in everything here, I really want to see it in real life! Ooh, the trip sounds exciting -- I have zero idea of where you're heading to, but I'm already looking forward to your posts!
